If I want to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate, you just buy the upgrade disc. But would that mean anytime I have to format, I would have to reinstall Vista Ultimate 64 then install the upgrade disc?

There has been a lot of talk about this, but last I understood, in order to make the first install, you NEED to have your old windows (in your case Vista Ultimate 64) installed. Once you install Windows 7, your key will be attached to Win7, so from then on, you can install Win7 from scratch whenever you reformat.
The more interesting question is what will happen for those of us using RC.
