Default Official Technet Thread

So, I am thinking of getting technet. I don't know too much about it and I figured we could use a thread on it, news about it, etc.

So, for those who use technet. Good things? Bad things?

I have technet, and its great it gives you most MS software except some developers tools (visual studio etc..)

For most software they give you 10 retails keys, you can always ask for more. For some software they give you MAK keys (multiple activation keys) these can be activated about 10-100 times from what i heard.

if you get technet now, you will have access to win7 and office 2010.

I was waiting for you to respond.

Ya, the more I look at it, the more I like it. It seems like a dumb decision NOT to have it.

Do you have a link which shows all the software it provides?

LOL. That works. Ya, I was just going over it on the website. I'll purchase it soon. It will definitely come in handy when I build my upcoming server, plus, W7 and Office 2010.

I has one. Already have my whole house MS'ed. Lappy still have Vista, I get a free upgrade through Dell and I will wait for them to release their 7 disc so I can use their handy apps (Facial recognition is cool)

Of course if they post the apps online I'll upgrade sooner ::

Easily the cheapest way to outfit a household of 3 desktops, 2 laptops and one HTPC. ::

I've looked at it briefly a few times but never really seriously as I didn't have the money to buy it anyway. A few questions though. So you get access to all of this software, but would I still be able to use it after my subscription expires or does all of the keys I had disappear?

Yes even after the Sub expires all the software you downloaded and are using will still work. You just can't redownload any of the ISOs or make new keys.

But remember that this is for non production environments only and not for resale. So if you put it on your laptop and want to sell it later, you cannot include any software that was downloaded from technet. Also using the software for a bunch of PCs you will be using for work related things (ie a production environment) is also against the EULA and can get you in trouble if someone like the BSA audits your company. The software is for your evaluation only.

Well that's pretty nice then. All one would have to do is download everything they give you and save all of the keys for it and you'd be set for a long time.

Yup, it's definitely the way to go. I bought a subscription back when Vista originally came out and downloaded/requested keys for everything I ever thought I would need. Best $350 I ever spent on software. Got Office 2007 Ultimate on 4 different computers and Vista as well. Would have cost a fortune to go with retail. Going to be renewing my subscription here pretty soon when 7 is available. Can't wait. Just need to time it so that Office 2010 gets released while I still have it.....anyone know the release date for it? I've heard mid 2010?
