You have to wonder how far in development Doom 4 is when Rage is still a ways off.

I just read the actual Game Informer article and the writer really writes it with a console focus... it is a console focused magazine after all. Looking at the screens though, and reading the article, I think it is obvious this will be massively better on PC. Just look at the screen shots... there is no way it will look near that good on consoles.

The part where he talks about "cutting" the game is solely in reference to consoles, it is obvious... the writer is the only one who mentions the PC being included in the discussion. Carmack talks about cutting the game world in two, and that the game was designed that way in order to have two discs on 360... he means two large open areas, as opposed to one large open area. Since the PC edition will install, cutting the game world into segments to fit on discs has NOTHING to do with PC, really, and he never says it does.

It's funny how fanboys and paranoids can read these things and find stuff to flip-out over.

I thought you were talking about controllers.

I'm going to take that stick and shove it up your arse!

Then again... you might enjoy that too much.

For the record, I've mentioned both things. I ranted a bit about controllers and how it's not a big deal, but I also said that the whole "cut" shenanigan was regarding gameplay "arenas", and not content.

So suck it.

In the article I don't even think he says "cuts" as much as he says "divided in two"... he goes on to says Doom 4 will be divided into 3 sections, in order to accomodate having 3 DVDs on Xbox.

Now, this does effect PC in that we will have 2 different areas like everyone else... hopefully you can travel back and forth between them.

From what I've heard the game was always designed with two large free range areas. It's because they didn't want to modify the original game design that they split the 360 version across 2 DVDs...if they were arbitrarily splitting the game, they would've just gone ahead and done it in 3 parts to suit the 360 better. But since the game already naturally split into two sections, they went with 2 DVDs.

I'm guessing from the artwork that the first large area is the canyon-ish wasteland we've seen in screenshots and the second area is a destroyed city.

I think the word cut came from the fudzilla link in the OP.

I guess a bunch of people (including myself) mistakenly assumed that the information in the article came from somewhere and wasn't completely fabricated. If its already been debunked by a more reliable source we might as well just close the thread before more people get the wrong idea.
