I know this has come up before, but I searched and no one's problem/solution seemed to match mine.
I have a mx 440 with SuSE pro 8.2. I am trying to get my hardware rendering enabled (it doesn't seem to be). I first did it using yast. I turned it on under the monitors section, and it went black, had to restart. Then I turned it on using SaX2. Now it says that hardware support is on. However, when I run glxinfo, it says direct rendering is off. I did some looking and found that some people needed to create symbolic links to the libglx.so.1.0.4496 flie. I did that. Now I have: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions # ls -l total 968 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 96 2003-08-15 00:57 . drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 2003-09-20 17:10 .. -r--r--r-- 1 root root 16684 2003-03-17 06:26 libdbe.a -r--r--r-- 1 root root 31612 2003-03-17 06:26 libdri.a -r--r--r-- 1 root root 168026 2003-03-17 06:26 libextmod.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2003-10-02 21:09 libglx.so -> libglx.so.1.0.4496 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 683136 2003-08-15 00:53 libglx.so.1.0.4496 -r--r--r-- 1 root root 26140 2003-03-17 06:26 librecord.a -r--r--r-- 1 root root 39722 2003-03-17 06:26 libxtrap.a However, (even after restarting x) it still says that direct rendering is off. What do I have to do to turn it on? I'm attaching my config file incase it helps. |

make sure you check /etc/sysconfig/3ddiag. it should look like this: ## Path: Hardware/3D ## Description: 3D Configuration ## Type: list(no,switch2mesasoft,switch2mesa3dfx,switch2xf8 6_glx) ## Default: switch2mesasoft # # This variable specifies the script to execute to create the necessary # symbolic links to the correct OpenGL libraries/extensions. These scripts # are located in /usr/X11R6/bin. The possible values are: # # "no" : Do not execute any script! # "switch2mesasoft" : Mesa software emulation (works for all graphic boards$ # "switch2mesa3dfx" : Mesa/Glide # "switch2xf86_glx" : XFree86 4.x/DRI # # You can find out which script you have to use for your graphic board with # the program "3Ddiag". # SCRIPT_3D="no" when you have done this, install the driver and use sax2 -s Now sax2 will show you a default configuraton. Dont accept it, but choose configure. Check all your settings, save and test it. |
