It makes perfect sense. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell that Wolfenstein will outsell Madden, so by saying this he is going to increase sales (or try to) knowing full well that he will never have to worry about paying anyone their purchase price back. The more people who buy into this, the more sales he generates, while still never coming close to Madden sales. It's actually pretty smart, and should lure in those people on the fence who are dumb enough to think they might get the game for free in the end. |

It's marketing, pure and simple. Simple publicity stunt. Madden 09, when there were of course far fewer 360's/ps3's/wii's out there, sold 2.3 million copies in its first month. Madden 2010 will likely sell ~3 million in its first month.
Of course there is absolutely no chance in hell of Wolfenstein beating those sales, hell it's a far bet it will sell over 3 million during its entire shelf lifespan, so it's basically zero risk and all gain. Just free advertising. |

I think it's just one guy being silly, rather than a marketing campaign... marketers would not want to draw attention to the title being of lesser importance.

Well it could boost sales with people trying to edge it out over Madden. I can only assume the guy knows that regardless of what happens his check book is safe. I can also only assume he got permission from his boss before doing something like this.

Madden will probably beat it in the US. But outside America, very few if any Countries have any interest in American Football.

A lot of people in the US don't care either, but those that do are freaking rabid.
