Default Re: 185.19 - feedback

piotro, are these issues still present in 185.18.14?

Does the problem reproduce in MPlayer? Unfortunately, MythTV is unable to play most of my 1080i content because it's raw H.264 streams, not multiplexed.

I tried to repro again, and still can't. You mentioned the "flashing frame" might be specific to 1920x1080p output. Is that still the case? Does the solarized/square playback also seem dependant on that output resolution?

Thanks.

Stephen,
Thx for keeping eye on my issues. At this moment I have little experience with 185.18.14 as I have impression about lower stability of this version comparing to 180.60. As I had stability issues with 185.* and this is production system - I revert to 180.60.
Because I can estimate real stability after weeks of usage - now I'm on long-term 180.60 stability testing.
After 2 weeks of tests - I will be able to decide which version is good for me.
Despite that - I will also test 185.* family so pls expect feedback.

I will try to test it under mplayer. Not tried yet, as I had other mplayer issues to resolve...

Well, I have 3 systems in daily usage:
1920x1800
1360x768
1600x1200
Issues mentioned it this thread I saw only in 1920x1080 system. It seems like at least frequency of mentioned issues are resolution dependent. For example: on 1360x768 system
I never saw mentioned issues - but it difficult to say was it because test period was too short or rather this system is issue free.

Thanks for the information. Can you also generate nvidia-bug-reports for all 3 systems; even if they aren't showing the issue, it'd be useful to see any similarities/differences between them. Thanks.

Also, if I'm remembering correctly, your're using minimyth. Can you say which version you're using, and what changes you've made relative to the standard install (i.e. you've obviously changed the NVIDIA driver version to test things etc.)

Thanks!

Pls find logs from 2 systems: 1\ 1920x1080 and 2\ 1360x768.
Both have exactly the same hw/sw.
Differences are:
-1\ is HDMI video, SPDIF audio
-2\ is VGA video, Analog 2.0 audio
-cosmetic changes in Myth configuration - mainly related to video playback profile (deinterlacers)

piotro, you reported two issues in this thread:

1) The main square playback/solarized colors/... issue. Unfortunately, we still haven't been able to reproduce nor fix this.

2) The ghosting issue, in post #19. We have just fixed a similar issue, and I believe this is the same issue you're seeing. Look for the fix in a future driver release.

piotro, Is this issue still present in the 190.* release series? If so, I can try to repro again; previous attempts have failed.

Steven,

I really appreciate that You remember about this issue !

Regarding "The main square playback/solarized colors/"
I wasn't able to catch this issue during playback, but some myth/X exceptions are ended with exactly the same picture. It looks like signal glitch from gf is turning TV into "broken" state. Turning-off-turning-on TV resolves issue - so thing is more complicated.

Regarding "ghosting" issue: I can't catch it on progressive content. For interlaced content, unfortunately I lost 1080i H264 source for tests, as my HD TV test channel was moved from DVB-T to Sat. By this I can't test new drivers releases for improvements in this area :-(

BTW: my unofficial 190.25 feedback: works stable but I'm experiencing 2 issues:

-sometimes (every 5-10th resume from S3) I have 10sec user-space halt. I called it "user-space hang" as right after S3 resume screen returns but all app are freezed for 5-10sec. After this period all apps resume normal work.

-when I call mythvideo with a lot of thumbnails - I see constantly growing Xserver mem usage. Launching mythvideo but without thumbnails removes issue - so problem is related to thumbnails displaying. I wasn't present in 180.60, but is present in 185.* and 190.*

I not reported yet above issues as bugs, as I want to narrow what circumstances are triggering mentioned issues.

If You have any hints helping to narrow root causes - I will be really grateful.

thx

Oh well. I'm sorry we couldn't fix this for you before then, assuming it was VDPAU driver issue.

I'm not very familiar with the pixmap cache, so I may be way off base, but perhaps try fiddling with parameters related to that; see the README for details.

Stephen,

I do some more tests, and I can say issue with growing Xorg mem consumption isn't correlated with pixmap. In fact currently I can't find what action on myth is triggering X mem footprint growth, but I can say that growth appears always after S3 resume. In other words: without S3 suspend-resume there is no X mem growth.

Some numbers:
sys has 1G RAM, 265M reserved for Video
180.60: Xorg RSS avg 3%, max 5-6% after 2-weeks uptime
185.*/190.*: 3% after cold boot, 20% after 1-2 days usage

Hmm. Since this isn't my area, it may be best to start a new post specifically for this issue...
