What bull****.

I just did an upgrade on my htpc to Win 7 x64, with about 1.3 TB of data, took a couple of hours or so to make the move and migration and what not.

If you are using THAT many applications, you'd be an absolute idiot to not have backups or a plan for migration And if you are that big an idiot, I doubt you'd be called a "super user".

i guess it depends on how much stuff you have to install... i did a fresh install and it took me about 6-7 hours to install everything... the audio drivers took me like 1 hour to figure out since the latest creative audigy drivers are broken and i had to manually remove every trace of them so i could install older ones that work... creative drivers are ****

Every time a new MS OS comes out they have these statements. When Win95 came out I had a friend who declared it was a couple of days!

I notice there have been floods of reports about Snow Leopard being buggy and breaking things even with a clean install, but no. We aren't allowed to know about that ::.

Apple = GOD
MS = Lucifer

Anyway...does it take that long? Took me maybe 2 hours tops to get my system up and running with Windows7. No App/Game installs tho.

I am not a fan of 'upgrade' versions of OS -.-.

I haven't installed the actual release yet but for the betas I have done a clean install everytime and I did it twice and each time it took about 8 minutes to get on there. I was shocked.

I thought that the "upgrades" are basically new installs since all it does is move your files, overwrites all system files and then copies your files back over...

well when i got my new HDD's i switched over everything, so fresh install of Vista took under an hr, probably about 30 mins tops. then i had to copy all the hdd data from my old hdd....that took a looong time. i don't think you can hold that against W7 or Vista or MS, its more of a hardware thing, even on a apple machine it will be the same

Naw, that's a clean install without format.

An upgrade take all your apps, data and settings and puts it in the new OS as best as possible. It can take a bit, especially if the PC is loaded with spyware and old hardware. You know, the usual PC user who is just experienced enough to get into porn and cracks and install new oses.

I've seen too many in my lifetime ::

So did word ever come out on how the upgrade discs would work? Say for instance can you upgrade the Win 7 RC by doing a fresh install with the upgrade disc?
Also there was word a while back that the upgrade disc could be used on a fresh formatted drive by just inserting a Win XP disc to verify you had another OS then doing a fresh install.

Oh, and it didn't take me anywhere near 21 hours to upgrade my wife's computer to Windows 7. It didn't take 2 hours to upgrade it. On my computer, clean install was under 30 minutes. 90 minutes if you include setting my development environment back up and installing drivers and games.

I did 7100 over Vista SP2, it was about 1-2 hours max.

I also did a Snow Leopard upgrade on my Macbook, took about 45-60 minutes.

For RTM I am doing a clean install.
