Right now it's illegal to sell and rent, not illegal to own. So Gift away. They want to change things to make it illegal to own and furthermore block sites at sell online, i.e. Play-Asia and Steam itself.

Valve thankfully have come out and said they are very disappointed in the OFLC. They wont submit like Rockstar and Beth and release a cut down game, they'll probably appeal and if that fails, well tough luck to us. Steam sales will boom and the retail outlets will be breathing down the OFLC's back.

The OFLC is pretty dodgey. A few members have come out and said the game was given an MA15 easily. It's just once it left the voting someone higher up banned it. No one has any idea why. This is the problem with the OFLC, they vote, but just one or two guys upstairs can then refuse classification. It would be nice if Valve took a stance and fought what was happening here, but it would be very expensive and lets face it. Our population of gamers who would buy it just isn't high enough once you account for piracy and non FPSers.

It's tricky to do this for online games. You'll have 2 version, meaning AU gamers can only play AU gamers, plus it's Steam based, having 2 version makes it even more messy. If they make changes it will be like Fallout 3 and the global version will be neutered. Then you guys can get mad at the OFLC too and bring them down.
