You're comparing apples to oranges, each game has totally different handling characteristics.
Comparing dirt2 to grid i can understand, but nfs shift stepped away from arcadey handling, its not sim like but far from what the previous nfs games were. I guess if you prefer how a car handles in dirt2 then shift obviously isn't for you, let alone any sim like lfs/gtr.

I swear I've tried so many racing games in the past few years, GTR 2, GTR Evolution, rFactor, this (NFS Shift) and others (GRID, DIRT, etc.).

The game I always come back to is Live For Speed. There is no game out there that is as simple to play online and yet offer complicated physics and pit stops and all that jazz. I have played iRacing and I thought the quality of online in it was brilliant, but I can't afford it.

dirt2 has horrible handling, that one race where you drive the eclipse feels like you are in slick tires

Just tried the demo for a few minutes. Hard to setup your wheel. Still don't have it set right yet. What exactly does steering sensitivity mean?

Anyway, it feels a lot like GTR 2. It felt more hardcore than GT5.

The FFB may be off. I collided with a car and something felt wrong.
