Exclamation Quadro NVS 420 detects wrong DVI mode with Dell 3007WFP

I have an Nvidia Quadro NVS 420 in a Dell Precision T5500 NSeries machine running Ubuntu 9.04 with a Dell 3007WFP LCD DVI monitor. I've tried every which way I can think of to get the monitor to the 2560x1600 native resolution supported, but the Nvidia driver keeps limiting the resolution to 1280x800.

A quick analysis of the verbose output of my Xorg server (see attached nvidia-bug output) shows that even though the EDID information from the monitor says it supports the higher resolution and required pixel clock (268.00 MHz), the Nvidia driver just a few lines above the EDID info autodetects a 165.0 Mhz max pixel clock. This indicates that the Nvidia driver is detecting single DVI mode, not dual DVI mode, even though both the monitor and the cable support dual DVI mode (in fact the Dell machine I'm replacing was using the same cable/monitor in dual DVI mode).

Is there a bug in the driver, or is there something wrong with my card or VHDCI breakout?

Post Re: Quadro NVS 420 detects wrong DVI mode with Dell 3007WFP

If it helps, I was using an Nvidia Quadro FX 3500 in the other Dell (Precision 960) I mentioned in my above post. I'm typing this message on the old machine in the full 2560x1600 resolution using the same monitor and cable I was trying to use on the newer machine.

Post Re: Quadro NVS 420 detects wrong DVI mode with Dell 3007WFP

I've just tried the "new machine" (the NVS 420) with a newer Dell monitor, the 3008WFP. The same problem with the incorrect max pixel clock detection (autodetects 165MHz instead of 268MHz) occurs with that monitor as well, so this definitely seems to be either a driver bug or a HW specific issue. Fortunately the 3008 is more flexible in it's native resolutions so I'm now getting 1920x1200, but that's still not the 2560x1600 performance I'm supposed to get from this card. Can anyone confirm a working setup with either of these monitors or that it's not a driver issue?

I should have probably named this bug "Quadro NVS 420 autodetects wrong max pixel clock".

The specific information included in title of the thread per the moderator suggestion tends to make people skip reading it unless they have the same HW - but it's not a HW specific issue.
