Minor annoyance is how it handles remembering window positions. If I open my "vids" folder on the desktop then move that window way over to the right. Then close it. Then open "computer" by double clicking that. The window which opens for "computer" ends up popping up on the screen in the spot I last closed the "vids" window when I had it open.

It's like it always remembers where the last window was open and always opens any new windows in the same location. Doesn't seem like XP or Vista were like that. They could remember separate locations.
I found that annoying at first as well. I've now gotten used to hitting [windows-key]-[right arrow] on the initial window and then [windows-key]-[left arrow] after opening the second window. Makes the window 1/2 the size of the screen and moves it to the side of the screen corresponding to the arrow.

For my personal computers, I have an MSDN subscription.

For work, I am on the "early adopter" program so any new corporate images, I get them first. My 2'nd notebook is still running Vista so I am good to go on production work

I am sure most other people also have MSDN or other subscriptions or are running a beta/RC or have a ripped version

should I buy the full windows7 retail or the "upgrade to windows7" retail ?can I even upgrade from vista 64 home premium?

install a fresh copy of vista 64 home premium
install windows7 upgrade
Are my steps right is it that simple? I'm doing a fresh install because I'm getting a new hard drive

Windows 7 x64 RTM runs nice & smooth here.

I believe Windows Vista was a necessary evil, software/hardware often takes wrong turns. It's only through mistakes that we gain the wisdom to perfect our ideas in the future

I agree. Win7 is what Vista should have been.

I think the threat of other OS's made them work harder on Windows 7. Linux is a real threat and Microsoft known it and have admitted it.

Well Vista wasn't a complete flop. I mean, it made many strides in important areas, including security and a lot of the internal workings. The reason it got such bad press is because it took steps backwards in areas that are most visible (ie file copying and simple operations like that).

Windows 7 seems to have fixed those glaring issues, and since they used the same driver model as Vista, voila we have working drivers right off the bat. This makes 7 look even better.

Depends on what subject you're bringing in to the table... if we're talking about gaming, no matter how much evolution does the Linux kernel suffers, KMS, GNOME 3, KDE4, PulseAudio, you name it... means (unfortunately) nothing as practically all games are for Windows, unless you're a quake3 addict, in that case you'll find your heaven there

It's quite sad, because I would prefer to use Linux rather than Windows, but... reality is reality
