You can run the game without the EA Downloader running.

Does Direct2Drive allow you to redownload the game later on? EA Downloader lets you do it for 6 months. After that you have to pay another fee... So if using teh downloader. Backup teh fies guys.

If you're having problems getting your wheel to feel right try this...it's from a Shift dev...
It worked for me.

We also recommend that you do not set the steering lock to anything higher than 450 degrees without then also adjusting the lock settings for your car in the advanced setup screens. Using the Logitech control panel set the steering lock to 360 degrees, then in-game select the appropriate preset for the wheel. Also using the in-game options set the speed sensitivity to 0% and ensure the steering deadzone is set to 0%. We recommend this as a good starting point however you may want to spend some time tweaking these values to better suit your driving style.

Wal-Mart has it near me... only has a disc check.
I'll probably get it retail - EA games are usually on the shelf in stores more-so than other.

My bigger concern is my current wallet and how light it feels So many game in September have made me think I should try and cool it (even though I'll probably bring Shift home with me after work anyway... damn me and my weak willpower).

What about the steering? Any adjustments in-game to the sensitivity?

This is true of the DVD version, but it can't be true of the EA purchased version, can it? Isn't the EA Downloader their DRM?

I have retail and it loaded EA Downloader everytime I start the game. Same applies for most EA games I've bought in the last year. I'm not sure if it's doing this for DRM or just to be a pain as the game still checks the disc anyway.

I've never hd a game load the ea downloader other than Burnout, which used it for the in-game store I think.

I'm also in 2048x1536. I thought the options were a bit strange. I think I have like 316 different settings. Each resolution with 2,3,8xAA. I'm unable to force anything higher right now with nHancer. Anyone have any luck forcing AA?

Wow, I forgot another reason why I like digital downloads vs retail. Retail here wants $69.99 CA for this while I can get it for $54.53 CA at D2D ($49.95 US). I may have to bite the bullet and give D2D another go.

Retailer is usually cheaper in the US. Steam is only cheaper when there is a deal, same with D2D.
