Default 190.36 suspend issues on NVidia ION / Atom 330

I am trying to get working suspend/resume on my Asus AT3N7A-I Atom mainbord. I am using the current 190.36 beta on an i686 2.6.31 kernel and Ubuntu 9.04 userland. I tried two different approaches:

First scenario - suspending while X server is running (only the idling server - no more X11 applications). In the case, the suspend process fails, the system wakes up again immediatley after suspending.

dmesg shows the following output:
Code:
[ 77.372612] NVRM: PM: invalid device!
[   77.373062] pci_legacy_suspend(): nv_kern_suspend+0x0/0xe0 [nvidia] returns -1
[   77.373075] pm_op(): pci_pm_suspend+0x0/0xf0 returns -1
[ 77.373081] PM: Device 0000:00:03.5 failed to suspend: error -1
[ 77.373086] PM: Some devices failed to suspend

The second scenario:
After using X11 (and running VDPAU-enabled applications) I shut down X11 and unload the nvidia.ko module. Now the system suspends as expected. After wakeup, the dmesg output looks completely normal. The trouble begins if I try to restart X11:

Xorg.log:
Code:

Any ideas to work around these problems? The performance of HD playback using VDPAU on Atom is really fascinating - but suspend/resume is absolutely essential in my opinion for a set-top box alike device.
