Yea Virtual PC can be installed, but I'm guessing that the XP mode download won't let you install it on a non Pro or Ultimate PC. Either that or the OEM key they use for XP Mode won't let you activate it so you can no longer use that install. It seems like the only reason for it being Pro and Ultimate only is because they give you the XP key. If you already have an XP key I don't see any difference between XP mode and just installing XP Pro yourself.

I don't know of any other way to install XP Mode than the link I showed you. Not sure if there is another way to do it or not.

Cause .VHDs are created with Virtual PC.

EDIT: Cause it's late and that's what I assumed you were referring to. I think you are more looking to multiboot using .VHD files.

Something else I've noticed about windows 7: For the first time since windows 2000, I don't immediately feel tempted to redo the theme.

The default theme is actually pleasant to look at. None of the fisher-price colors of windows XP default, and none of the goth black of the vista default.
