Default 190.40 fatal mythtv video freeze

Since using 190.x I've not caught any more pre-emption failure messages so start a new thread with this fatal video error.

Can I provide any further?

What exactly is " Error detected 2 195"

This is a benign error. It simply means that the overlay presentation queue could not be created. Either because the overlay was already in use, or because system performance constraints prohibit overlay use.

Fatal video play death = benign?

I am sorry I still see it as more than benign!

Video play dies!

Malignant error might be a more acceptable description.

What do we need to do to get it to play continuously?

I think what you maybe saying is you do not think the reported errors are causing the video play death?

What can I do to catch the error?

Yes, the only errors that appeared in your logs were benign.

I'm afraid I don't understand what "video play death" means. Application/system hang/crash/...? Are there any other error messages generated that weren't in your log files?

Stephen, video play death means video play stopped with a screen notifying an error had occurred. One could press escape to revert to the mythtv main menu, and then restart playing live tv without need to close mythtv or reboot. From memory recorded files continued to be recorded, just not displayed.

I certainly forwarded all log information I had. It seems there is a fatal error that is not expressing debug information.

OK. What makes you believe this is a VDPAU driver problem, as opposed to a problem in MythTV when using VDPAU?

To determine this, can you run mythfrontend from a shell session that you can watch while using MythTV (e.g. over ssh) and set the following environment variable before running MythTV:

export VDPAU_TRACE=1

When you get the problem, please see if any VDPAU trace messages are still being displayed. If they are, MythTV is still calling the VDPAU driver. If not, MythTV has hung/... internally for some reason. If you do see trace messages, could you post a good few seconds worth here, so I can see what commands MythTV is sending, to make sure they're still valid. Thanks.

Stephen, see the file attached. I don't know where the problem arises and appreciate your assistance to pin point this. From what you have said it appears mythtv is hanging as the text stream stopped as per the attachment.

On the face of it, this appears to be a MythTV error. All of the VDPAU functions appear to complete without returning any error, and the sequence they're being called in looks reasonable. For some reason, MythTV decides to stop playback, I'm assuming due to these messages:

2009-10-22 20:00:07.305 WriteAudio: buffer underrun

2009-10-22 20:00:08.905 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 10 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:12.107 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 30 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:13.707 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 40 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:15.308 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 50 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:16.909 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 60 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:18.510 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 70 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:20.111 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 80 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:21.712 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 90 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:23.313 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 100 times.

2009-10-22 20:00:23.313 NVP, Error: Timed out waiting for prebuffering too long. Exiting..

(I don't know what causes those, since I'm not familiar with MythTV internals)

and then gracefully cleans up VDPAU, which also appears to succeed. I'd suggest asking on the MythTV forums how to track this down (or pointing one of the MythTV people who hang out here at this thread).
