I messed up - I used to be using the stable 185.18.36 from Ubuntu 9.10, then I removed all nvidia*185* packages and installed 190.40 from here.
Then I did not remove the 190.40 but simply reinstalled the 185.18.36 from Ubuntu's Hardware Manager and now GLX does not start: Xorg.log: (II) LoadModule: "glx" (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so: undefined symbol: _nv000028gl (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so (II) UnloadModule: "glx" (EE) Failed to load module "glx" (loader failed, 7) Looks to me that's because I did not properly remove the 190.40. Anyone here knows how to fix that? |

If you have good reasons to install a driver by hand in ubuntu, please read the documentation provided in the sticky thread here _and_ the documentation provided by ubuntu. Fuchs |
