Default Re: proglems with G105M

I have the G105M and using the 190.42 driver, all is well and I had no need to edit my xorg.conf file, everything worked out of the box.

My problems:

1. I too have the internet connection (WLAN) dropping out frequently
2. I have no way to adjust brightness, no device exists in /proc/acpi/video or /sys/class/ I tried searching for brightness, max_brightness, max*brightness, video* and I cannot find any device on my system to adjust brightness. I need to lower it because it kills my battery. -P.S. the Fn+Brightness keys are not recognized (no keycode/scancode).

HP dm3t laptop with 1.3Ghz C2D, G105M.

Hi everyone,

I have Acer Extensa 5635G with an NVIDIA G105M. I've tried much of distros, but i cannot solve a few issues like:

Mint 7 (My Favorite):
Everything work flawlessly, except the graphic of course. After install of NVIDIA drivers 180 i have six mini desktops. After editing a Xorg.conf (in this threat) I have one desktop with right resolution 1366x768, but I cannot activate 3D effect and NVIDIA X Panel didnt load.
After installation a newest 195.22 driver is the same situation at all.

Mint 8:
Graphic work perfectly (even with 3D! driver 185) but WiFi didnt! How it can be possibe??! In Mint 7 works out of the box and in new version of the distro not??! Intel 5100agn .

Ubuntu 9.10:
Same situation as in Mint 8.

Mandriva 2010 PowerPack
WiFi OK, graphic not. Any NVIDIA driver failed to install.

Can yoou help me with:

- NVIDIA G105M with 3D in Mint 7 or Mandriva 2010
or
- WIFI in Mint 8 or Ubuntu 9.10

Thank you very much!

@Wlashack:

I have exactly same laptop and my works fine (Ubuntu 9.10) but with this xorg.conf
http://jens.yelles.se/2009/07/02/dri...geforce-g105m/
I am use 195.22 driver, previous was 190.42. Both works perfetly (VDPAU on HD video, 3D etc)

Warning: blogpost on link use typografic commas, but you need normal.

WIFI have problem on 2.6.31 kernels, it is fixed on ubuntu, but fix is not released into updates. Workarround is use "pci=use_crs" kernel parameter (/etc/default/grub file details https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/407824)

This may be a bit off topic, but I was interested in the HP dm3t with the P9300 and the NVIDIA G 105M (4GB DDR3 and the 160GB SSD).

So did you get your multimedia keys working (the function keys)? Also, how is the G 105M as far as performance with Linux compositing like xfwm4 or compiz, or with video playback using mplayer(vdpau) or vlc? And how bad is the wlan?

Any info would be helpful because I'm trying to decide between the HP with the specs above, or the Dell Studio XPS 13 with the P9600 - 4GB RAM DDR3 - G 210M - 128GB SSD - 1520 802.11n (I know about the heat vent but don't think it's that big of a problem)

A simple setting works for me, allowing full screen at any resolution (like in games);
You need to write a xorg.conf with only this:

Code:
Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Default Device"
	Driver "nvidia"
	Option "NoLogo"	"True"
	Option "ModeValidation" "NoTotalSizeCheck"
EndSection

The next driver release will recognize this particular invalid mode and work around it by substituting the corrected timings automatically. Once that driver comes out, I'd recommend removing any workaround options you may have added to xorg.conf.
