Yeah I was thinking about that. My recollection is a bit hazy, but it seems TV out is one of those features that seems to break fairly often, and not be the highest priority to fix.

I'm wondering if a DVI to HDMI cable would allow me to bypass the problem? Just a thought. I'll probably just wait for a fix.

I too am having this problem, just posting the bug report. Ubuntu 9.10, 190.42 drivers on an 8400GS.

Scenario 1: only TV is connected via S-Video = TV screen goes blank once X starts (while it works during bios & bootup)

Scenario 2: TV is connected via S-Video and monitor connected via VGA and/or DVI = nvidia-settings does not detect the TV and TV screen is blank, while monitor works OK. (Wheras this scenario worked fine using separate X screens in the 173 & 180 drivers.)

Attached is the bug report from scenario 2 (both TV & monitor connected but TV is blank)

I can also confirm the same symptoms in Windows 7 now as well.

@personman - Any luck with the DVI to HDMI solution?

No go with 195.30 beta. Can't wait for a fix though cause it felt like my graphics performance about doubled with that driver.

This seems to be fixed in the latest beta, 195.36.03:

"Fixed a regression that made the "TVStandard" X configuration option cause system hangs with products from the GeForce 6 and 7 series."

Tested and it works here.

Sadly for me my GeForce 9 system still hangs using 195.36.03.

I tried commenting out the "TVStandard" option and I get the same thing, frequent intermittent freezes and no mouse pointer upon login.
The only way I can login is by commenting out the "ConnectedMonitor" option, and thus loosing my TV out.

My nvidia video card is:

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT] (rev a1)

I have the same problem as everyone else (tv not detected on s-video) when using any of the nvidia drivers past 185.18.14. Please fix this guys. This has been broken for a very long time now. I would really like to upgrade but 185.* does not seem to support the new 1.7+ xorg. I am using a duel screen display setup incase that helps reproduce this.
