Oh. I didn't know you had another drive.
![]() Uhhh, yeah, that should work, assuming the installer will let you do it. Burn the patch.pl to a different CD (though that seems to be a waste of 700MB... but oh well), and put it in instead of the disk. Then follow the rest of the instructions. Look for somewhere where the installer asks for where the device containing the patch.pl file is, and give it the device corresponding to your second CD drive (probably /dev/hdd, assuming your second CD drive is the slave on the secondary channel). If it won't work with anything other than a floppy, that's a bad design, but you can't really do anything about it. You'll have to figure a way to get a disk working...

Very late... but this instruction fixed my problem:
after installing the nvidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run it did not make any atempts to work on startup alltough I changed nv to nvidia as the driver in XF86Config-4. The system started but X was not available. "modprobe nvidia" showed that the driver could be loaded and after that I was able to run X with "startx". with the instructions below I was able to activate X directly at the startup including the new driver. I run Mandrake 9.1 and have a Gforce 200mx. Last but not least: Thank you ![]() [su /sbin/modprobe nvidia, then, if no errors, exit startx Start off as your normal user (not root). If that works, then make sure alias /dev/nvidia* nvidia is in /etc/modules.conf, and run /sbin/depmod -a. [/b][/quote] |
