We use AVG at work and it really slows down the PCs, I don't like it.

That's really interesting. Because there are many viruses that don't require you to do anything "stupid" other than be attached to an infected network. Remember Blaster in 2003?

It's quite an old and somewhat rusty model, but still works great. 100% success rate speeks for itself!
![]() There are newer brains on the market, but most of them lack my efficiency. @Q - I do remember Blaster. And I did manage to stay virus-free, having legal OS, all updates, and great firewall solution. Same as plenty of other people. Once every 3 months or so I do install antivirus, scan my PC (it never finds anything) and uninstall it.

While better than not doing anything, your plan is not very smart. Inbetween those 3 months your computer could get infected and crash or prevent you from even installing an antivirus later and scanning your system. I suggest you install an antivirus program that has low impact on the speed of your computer and forget about it. |

Microsoft Security Essentials
Free. Fast. Light weight. Does the job. No ads. No popups. Why anyone would use anything else for Windows 7 is beyond me. |

BitDefender Internet Security 2010 after I used BitDefender GameSafe that does not work properly in Windows 7 (have some kind of problems with firewall).
Bitdefender products I take primarily due to a very nice GameMode option, low prices and excellent support.

QFT. Easily the smallest footprint, fastest, and least hassle of any AV i've used in a long time. Uninstalled BitDefender from my deskop and AVG from my laptop and never looked back. |

I see here that Windows Defender gets disabled in Vista and Win 7 and uninstalled in XP when using MSE
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...f-0dcedb9ab9fd So I guess that would be speedier and use less resources than what I'm running now. which is Antivir and Windows Defender. I may have to check it out. In that link it says sometimes Windows Defender doesn't get automatically disabled after installing MSE, has anyone ran across this? |
