Hey guys, long time no see. I just bought a 360 Elite which should arrive sometime next week. Can I use regular standard HDMI cable to my Onkyo receiver and still get full 5.1 surround? I know there's that crappy official HDMI kit but I'm hoping I won't need something like that. My receiver should handle everything fine as long as the 360 is capable of passing it through the HDMI cable. Surprisingly this answer is not as easy to find as you might think, so I figured I'd stop in and ask over in these parts. Thanks!

In the general sense, an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable (QC issues aside).
So you should be just fine with something like this.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: Yes, so long as your cable isn't crap, and even crappy cables under 8' typically are fine. |
