Even if the performance is significantly faster, cost of production indicates that ATi could still win them in a price-war. Granted, I do not know how much it cost nVidia to make each GT300 chip, nor how much it cost ATi to make each Radeon HD5k chip... but I'm rather confident it costs ATi less than it does nVidia. Let me clarify this- I'm not sure what nVidia showed you- but I am sure it was under a controlled environment. I highly doubt that, with how late to the game they are, that there could be much they could do to compensate for this. Fermi could be 150% faster than a 5970... but if it costs an arm and a leg it wont sell worth crap. Not everybody has more money than what they know what to do with. Most folks are cutting back on spending, and nvidia needs to keep this in mind if they plan to sell any large quantities. ATi figured this out a generation ago- it's about time nVidia does the same. |

(edit) ................... Can someone explain why 3 screens in full-screen can't work but windowed does?

It would be nice to get a feature like that, but I don't need it myself. My Matrox Th2Go DE ensures that I can run 5040x1050 regardless of nVIDIA or ATI.

For instance, will we hear more about the GPU technology during CES?That said, as much as I would like to hear more at CES, I would be very surprised if NVIDIA released any info to the public before the cards are ready to launch. nFINITY, cute ![]() |

Why cant we have that for free?
Just need the windowed resolution/screen ratio as an option !!

nvidia already has a SLI mode very similar to Eyefinity - it's called SLI Mosiac. Only supports up to 8 monitors in its current form.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro_...saic_mode.html http://www.nvidia.com/object/qplex_d...gurations.html Plenty of things we take for granted on the geforce line first appeared in the quadro line (the combined AA modes, SLI AA for example). Only found this out because nvida asked me to complete a survey and "SLI Mosaic" turned up among the SLI options, so naturally I had to investigate further. I wonder if nHancer could unlock this for geforce if it was made aware of the feature?

Can the SLI Mosaic feature run 3D apps?
The problem with previous video cards (before ATI 5xxx series) is that in order to run 3 monitors, you'd need either 2 video cards or a Matrox TripleHead2Go. But even if you have 2 video cards, you couldn't natively run 3d applications across 3 monitors as far as I know (not without SoftTH or Matrox Th2Go).

There has to be some sort of catch though.
I know for a fact that if you don't have one of the new ATI cards or a Matrox TripleHead2Go, the only way to run games across 3 screens is to use 2 video cards and SoftTH, which does not support SLI or CrossFire modes at all, so whatever SLI feature it is you're referring be must be something else. Otherwise, why would people with nVIDIA cards be using Matrox Th2Go to game across 3 screens? I'll be honest, I am not familiar with the feature you're talking about, I'd just be extremely surprised as to why SoftTH and Th2Go would even exist if nVIDIA already had a similar feature. EDIT: reading a bit further, it's not quite clear whether or not SLI Mosaic will allow you to game across more than 2 screens natively, but even if it does, you need to have a Quadro Plex, which is like some sort of super computer for image/video processing. Probably costs like thousands of dollars if not more, so that's probably why no one ever mentions it.

Probably because they are not using Quadro cards.
At present it is a Quadro only feature, not geforce but that is nearly always down to software not hardware differences between geforce & quadro (main exception being genlocks). As I said above I'm sure a clever person could hack a quadro driver to offer this on geforce cards.
