Sorry, it wasn't you I thought was attacking me. The fellow who was sorry for my previous employers was. And I still like the looks of XP for the other fellow. I would have answered your question but I'm sure you already know a pagefile is pretty necessary.

Well, I wouldn't say it's necessary. Otherwise we'd not have the ability to disable it.

However, it is cost-effective, more so then having enough RAM in every machine to render the pagefile not needed.

In fact, I've read rumor about how SSDs might combine the pagefile and RAM- eliminating the need for dedicated system RAM, eventually.

Why even use Windows XP? Isn't it just a prettier version of Windows 2000? Simple Philistines you are! Don't you know you're giving away your money to a giant maniacal corporation when you needlessly upgrade?

I've got a copy of win7 ready to go.I'll install it when I finish all my installed games and XP decides it's time to start screwing up.My machine is running perfectly as of right now so there's really no need for a new O/S.I may grab another drive around boxing day to install it on but it's not on my list of priorities....XP is stable enough

I recently bought a copy of Windows 7 Pro and will install it when I finally get the time to put my upgrade parts in. I'll put it on a secondary partition and if it wins me over I'll use it full time.

hehehe... Good point, except Windows 2000 just wasn't a good Home OS. Of course it was used by many at home and even I had it on a secondary partition, but Windows XP was much better. Hopefully Windows 7 will win me over and I'll use it full time. I'll install the 64 bit version on a secondary partiton and see if it runs all of the old stuff I want to keep.

Batman Arkham Asylum ran visibly slower on 7. And there is just a bit too much "fluff". So I switched back to XP. I'm planning to dual boot later on.

Honestly, I've considered allocating about 4GB but haven't yet as I have 4GB of RAM currently. Looking to upgrade to 8, or even 12 in the near future.

Why do you ask?

With Windows 7 I averaged 100 FPS @ 1920x1080 - no AA/ 8x Anisotropic Filtering - with everything on high including PhysX.
