Was just curious. Everyone I know runs a pagefile.

Cause most everyone doesn't have enough RAM to go without one.
Hence why the pagefile is "necessary". Without it, the cost of the computers would be considerably higher and as a result *far* fewer people would own a computer. ![]() I just prefer not having one. Less wear and tear on my hard drive, and over all smoother system performance. Only downside is that it costs $$$. ![]() |

I was sitting back with my finger in my nose fixing to chew but i noticed now its about swapfile which is needed for certain things regardless of how much ram you have like creative audio apps or even cd burning apps which love the swapfile to much.
I got 8 and 12 gigs of ram in all my boxes and still use it even though i use 7 too it is needed or you get issues slim.

Real time operating systems typically cannot use pagefiles (you can set windows 2003 to operate in real time). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_operating_system

I upgraded to Windows Vista x64 1 1/2 years ago and all i got was problems even with SP1 installed. First it was random app crashes and slow downs, the hard drive continually chugged away and on the odd occasion when shutting down the OS it would sit there with the HD going crazy for around 5mins before it shut itself off. All the problems frustrated the sh*t out of me that in the end i gave up and went back to Windows XP. With Windows XP I had no issues and loved it, I did miss Direct X 10 a little but not enough to warrant sticking with Vista.
Now my Vista disk sits in a cupboard collecting dust, every time I look at it i am sick because I know i wasted all that money for nothing lol When Windows 7 was released I reluctantly purchased and installed it on my PC and I am happy to report that it is working great on my PC with no issues. Its fast, i am able to game in DX10 and the new task bar is great. After my nightmares with Vista I will never use it on a PC I own again!

I'm using right as I type this. Never had a problem with it. But I am waiting for Windows 7 Ultimate to show up at my door step by this week end.
