crashes with gtx260m + kde desktop effects

Hi

I just got this computer, and with kde desktop effects on + me toying with flash/opengl/virtualbox Xorg will crash. I haven't been able to get a backtrace at all unfortunatly, checking Xorg.log I see "Backtrace:" but it's empty.

This is on a new kubuntu install, I've tried the latest 185 driver from there, and the latest in the nvidia-vdpau ppa overlay (190x).

If theres anything I can do to improve the chances of this getting solved fast let me know, I'm rather eager to get this solved.

been trying a bit more, even without desktop effects, the nvidia driver will crash X.

nv works with gnome though and seems pretty stable (cant suspend 2 ram though :/ ).

This is a regression, driver 173 does not crash, however it's so slow on the desktop it's useless, I get terrible desktop performance, but fine 3d performance.

Upgraded to latest packages + latest nvidia-vdpau packages, and it's been running good for about 2 and a half hours before restarting X now, which shatters my previous record (I actually thought it was ok now, just thought I'd test some more before deciding it was stable).

bump, tried installing gentoo on a seperate partition for a completely different setup (experimental tree, xorg 1.7.3, latest nvidia driver, lighter kernel), same problem.

Isn't the gt260m only supported in 190.xx and later drivers? Try the 195's from nvidia's beta repository.

tried both 190x and 195x and they both have the same problem.

Sorry I can't be of more help, seems like a KDE issue -- then again, support from nVidia on these forums is terrible.

tried it on a gnome setup as well, exactly the same problem.
