Default Twinview DPMS

I've got a dual monitor setup and really only use one of the monitors for "special occasions" (e.g. mythtv, image editing, not stuff i do constantly). Normally I only use the primary monitor by itself, and i was wondering if there was a good way to turn the second monitor on and off by itself by controlling the DPMS on it, i can do this to both monitors with a command "xset dpms force off" etc. but i'd love to be able to have the second monitor come on and off by itself (i can work out how to get kde or something else to actually make it do what i want, as long as i can turn them on and off individually)

You can configure two MetaModes, one with both screens enabled and one with just your primary display enabled. Then, you can switch between the two configurations with xrandr.
