Hi
I just bought a new display and now i have a resolution higher than 1280x1024. Well in nvidia-settings there is no resolution higher than that. So i thought go to xorg.conf and put it in. But there is nothing in it????? then i googled and found that some settings are in /home/user/.nvidia-settings-rc well there is nothing that points me to resolution or gives xorg settings. where are they gone - where can i set the resolution higher than 1280x1024? Videocard: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5500] (rev a1) Linux Distribution: Ubuntu 9.10 Nvidia Version: Version 173 ( recommended by Ubuntu Team ) thanks Arnulf Edit: Well i found now - standard configuration ( xorg.conf ) created has some bugs. so xorg.conf is still used ( glad to see ). after i fixed some entrys i was able to configure some things with nvidia-settings and save the configuration to xorg.conf. anyway - im still not able to use resolution higher thatn 1280x1024 - not possible to set this ???? pls help: new xorg.conf: Quote:

Look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
That is nearly always the starting point for tracking down problems. The solution might then be obvious. |

Most 5xxx cards have a low pixelclock frequency on DVI, meaning the resolution they can handle via DVI is lower than via VGA.
If connected via DVI you may have to add this to the monitor section of xorg.conf: Option "ModeValidation" "NoMaxPClkCheck,NoEdidMaxPClkCheck" |

Incredible - thank you - now i can switch to higher resolution.
But it does not store this. I have started nvidia-settings as root and i have stored it to xorg.conf! If i klick shutdown the monitor displays "out of range" After reboot the resolution is back to 1280x1024. any ideas about that? nvidia-bug-report.log lg Arnulf |
