Can't change the brightness with nvidia driver - Page 4

I'm using 2.6.32 release candidate 5 kernel, with git 3 patches. Both from kernel.org.
The kernel it's working with this config:

For me, on kernel 2.6.31 (Ubuntu), I've recompiled it without deprecated acpi event, I still have no file in /sys/class/brightness and fn keys doesn't work...
And cat /boot/config-`uname -r` | grep CONFIG_ACPI_VIDEO
returns : CONFIG_ACPI_VIDEO=m

In the tests I've done previously. I haven't time enough to test all the possible combinations of different legacy supports (15 combinations).
So in every test, I tried disabling only one at time. It's possible that there is some odd combination involved.
Try with every one legacy option that give you the option to load it as a module, and compiling it into the kernel for the rest.

Stendall, did you need the nvclock utility (with smartdimmer command) to force the backlight down or not ? I do

I install 2.6.32 kernel and 195.30 nvidia driver, and suddenly my backlight brightness control works fully! I'm not sure if nvidia or linux kernel is what fixed it, but finally!

My laptop is an MSI 171f with 8200M G.

Did not work for me

At least not with the "official" Fedora kernel 2.6.32.4-29.fc12 and Nvidia driver 190.42-1.fc12.4

Today I'm still having problems with the backlight.
I've noticed that sometimes, when laptop wakes up from sleep, the brightness it's somewhat low.
The brightness controls aparently works, the sliders can be moved, and the brightnes changes.

Everything seems work, but the most brightnes I can archieve, is lower than the maximun brightness before sleeping and wakeup.
I have to reboot the computer to recover the original brightness.
Must say that I don't know if it's a problem in the kernel acpi backlight module or Nvidia module.
