Star Trek Online Beta Impressions

Man I love this game. You can set the team options to stop automatically grouping you when you an enter an instance if you want to play solo. If you desire some group action you can join one of the deep space battles, those do not involve teams, just lots of random fights (after beta will this be PVP?).

The missions are simple and repetitive, but no more so than a game like Diablo or Dragon Age really. It does not have Dragon Age's story, that is a big weakness, but the IP makes up for that (for me personally).

Lovin' the game, as I said.

NarcissistZero, you think this is a good time to jump into the Beta or is it still too buggy, I'm thinking about giving it a try maybe this weekend, any pointers starting out or things to avoid...

downloading the torrent client now... anyone know where I can get a key? If you're bored of the game can you pm your key to me (looks like theres only a couple weeks left anyways)... if you want to use it again let me know and I'll stop...

It was a bit buggy but the patch a few days ago fixed a lot of that, it feels almost retail ready now. The only bug I still have is appearing as a ship in land sections or vice versa, but it only lasts a few seconds and then fixes itself.

I played for 2 hours...then CTD....looks really good, plays smooth graphics are pretty decent for a MMO. But why isn't this single player? What are you supposed to do with the other people? I haven't seen any reason for this game to even be online.

They were only handing out so many....hopefully they're not out of keys. I sent in a request and it took 24hrs to process, maybe you'll get one tomorrow.

Pretty good game overall, needs a little more work on some issues. Multiplayer is important during space combat, not so much on the ground.

Unfortunately it's standard MMORPG gameplay....Patrol this, escort that, engage Klingons there. It is extremely true to startrek as a franchise though. I'd really like to see some improvement in the "Sector Screen" where you "Warp" to other systems.....it's pretty lame and seems no faster than impulse power in the instanced battle encounters. There are some aspects of Evenline that would have been excellent to add to the space combat. Like the right click..orbit @ command and the auto-fire. The game keeps you busy by lacking these features...but it's not as entertaining and keeps you from focusing your attention on your ship status and your enemies, because you're constantly clicking "fire phasers" or "launch torpedoes" whilst trying to steer a Starship...that handles like Tractor trailer with only 1 steering tire(and rightfully so).

Fleet mission (raids) in space and ground (3 to 12+ players to complete), as well as random quests. Before the game useto auto group you with people who are doing same quests and it made the instances harder but fun with a group. I havent been to one of these in a while though, I wonder if they took it out or you need to find a group prior to zoning in.

You can set 2 weapons to auto fire by right clicking them but thats about it. But helps a good deal.
