Hi,
I just bought a Samsung Laptop with the G105M card in it. In Windows the card works fine, but I can't get it to work in OpenSUse 11.2. After starting X, it freezes and only the powerbutton can get me to reboot. I tried the 185.18.14 and the 190.42 drivers, both with the same result. I put in the idle=poll and maxcpus=1 kernel parameters, without succes. I tried several xorg.conf configurations based on the 6-screens-problem with the G105M that is discussed elsewhere in this forum. Didn't help eiter, X keeps crashing. I use KDE 4 but even the small ICEWM windowmanager crashes. I'm out of options! I hope anyone would be so kind to give some advice. Thanks a lot, Egbert Attached: 1.nivida-bugreport (which I could not run with the drivers loaded, it crashes too soon) 2.xorg.conf (modified, the 'standard' version didnt work eiter) |

No reply's, great. Little update:
I spent hours and hours on this problem. My xorg log comes up with the WAIT error, and some googling learns me that I'm not the only one. There are many posts, in this forum or elsewhere. I found many posts unanswered, like mine. The others had speculative solutions, like try this or that. I've tried al options, each time altering xorg and rebooting. Each time I ended disappointed. Probably there is no solution. If there is, it would be a rare combination of one of those many options you can put in xorg file, kernel parameters, etc. No way to find out for anyone with some sort of a social life. I know I can disable the nvidia driver but the graphics are not worth looking at. That leaves me using Windows instead of Linux, to my bitter disappointment. You can imagine my frustration. Spending lots of money on a laptop with the highly praised Nvidia hardware, spending hours and hours editing org files and scanning log files, and ending up with nothing. So my advise to anyone considering buying a (Samsung NP-R719) laptop with a G105M card and using Linux: seriously reconsider! ![]() |

hey ! don't say that. I was the same as you are now a few weeks ago.
I have acer 5738 with g105m and the good xorg.conf for me is this one: Quote:
I'm not a super "linux pro" so you can do it also. Other thing: a nvidia moderator from this forum said g105m support will be updated in the next beta driver (correct me if I'm wrong) SO check this xorg conf and tell me if that fix your problem :-) ps: sorry for my bad English

I'm sorry for the slow response on this thread. I thought there was a bug filed for this problem already, but I can't seem to find it. Have you tried 195.30? Please give that driver a try and generate a new bug report log if it still doesn't work. Thanks, and I apologize for the inconvenience!

195.30 do not resolv anything.
And the strange thing is that there is no xorg.conf which work with all g105m.

Whatever it was, both of you are my heroes.
I've used the beta driver, and the xorg file of Gillian, and somehow this combination did it for me. I'm out of the woods. It doesn't make sense, since I've tried the beta before and as far as I remember most setting of Gillians xorg. Either I've done something stupid, or I just missed the lucky combination so far. Anyhow, I dont care what is was, it works. Wow, weeks of frustration have come to an end! I'm a happy man. I love the G105M card. Thank you both for the effort! Egbert |
