Default What do you use for a feed/RSS reader?

I used to while away a lot of time going to individual sites to read daily news content. Back in late '06 I started using the Feeds function of IE7, and by the time I left my software company job in Spring '09 I had developed quite an organized list of feeds... the problem was that I didn't really like them all enough to read them regularly.

So I took a break from that stuff, and started going back to the actual sites for material.

And then Google Reader happened.

It seems now that I save a LOT of time using this service, and I get all the content I need and want in nice modular package.

What do you use? How do you get your news?

I'm really surprised nobody has chimed in on this. Is there a better service out there for this, one that I've neglected to notice?

Google Reader is incredible. I had always been a bookmarks/folders/open-all-in-tabs type guy. Then something snapped two weeks ago and I've used nothing but RSS feeds and Google Reader. It's not like I didn't know about them, I just didn't care to change.

I'd never look back.

I've got a friend that has a pay product that runs as a service on his home server. It aggregates the most popular news stories and runs statistics on them out of a list of over 2000 sources he's compiled. He's really happy with it - but he'd use Google Reader if he didn't already pay for that.

I use InfoRSS for FireFox. The guy updates all the time, and never had any issues whatsoever.

That looks pretty cool, shilk. I might have to give it a whirl.

I asked myself the same question for years before my revelation. I just "got" it.

I used to have three folders of bookmarks I would check everyday. Usually several times a day.

Humor - 5 links
Comics - 5 links
News - about 15 links

With an RSS reader, you get updated whenever something new has been posted on each site. Also, you can mark items as read so that you can keep track of what you have and haven't read so you don't miss anything. It's really saved me a lot of time, and also helps keep Firefox happy because I'm not loading 15 links all at once.

What's the point of NOT using one? Do explain.
