Hello,
I have my e8400 oc'ed to 4Ghz (500x8) with 1.462v. i ran prime95 for 18.5hrs stable and the max temp was 60c. ALL my games run perfectly. Except, left for dead 2. I'll open steam, start L4D2, join a game, start playing and all of a sudden I get a glitched screen with the "last sound clip" looped. This happens completely at random. Sometimes 5min into gameplay, other times 45min. I have to reboot to recover from it. It's bogus. I could play Crysis for hours or CoD4 for hours. I've disabled Multi-core rendering, I tried "mat_queue_mode 0" which doesn't even exist in L4D2's console (great). Lowest settings, Default settings, Nothing. I have the latest nvidia drivers and sound drivers. Anyone else experience this?

I have my system o/c'd and I don't have a problem playing L4D2, or any other games. Could it have something to do with your timing of your memory? Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall L4D2?

i have tried reinstalling the game. Tried verifying/defragging the files. Again, no other game has an issue. I will try other Source engine games and report.

L4D2 had/has a windows permissions problem for some folks. The fix for the CSC file in this thread worked for me as well as others here.

I'm using XP 64-bit by the way. I have tried reinstalling, deleting those .ncf files. This doesn't seem like a permission problem. What I haven' tried was updating DirectX but I doubt that will work.

Either way, hope you find a fix ...I know how frustrating that can be. |

Yes, freezes and random crashes. I showed that thread to mailman2 who also stays pretty involved with the gfx scene here as well and it worked for him too.
To be totally honest - I don't know why it worked, just glad it did. ![]() |

Ok i was playing CoD4 then it crashed the same way L4D2 did. Downclocked my CPU to 3.6Ghz(400x9), L4D2 was running fine until tonight. It crashed randomly again. Could it be my PSU?

Any way you can get a copy of 32-bit XP or 64-bit Vista or Win7 and try it then? Sorry, but 64-bit XP is horrible.
