Left 4 Dead 2 sensitive to overclocking - Page 2

Sorry but it's kind of hard going back to 32-bit XP, 64-bit just runs alot smoother than 32-bit. And I like to have 4GB of memory for games like GTA4 and future apps. I don't think changing over to 32-bit XP just for L4D2 is justified at this point.
I even tried loosening my RAM timings to 5-5-7-24, that didnt work.

Have you tried to upgrade to Vista or Win7 64-bit?

No i have not. I cannot warrant a purchase of a new OS just to test stuff out.

But I sometimes feel like this motherboard could be on its way. The capacitors look good.

I have tried other vid cards as well, still same result. Obviously, at stock CPU/FSB speeds, the game runs fine. What I am trying to figure out is what causes L4D2 to crash. Does 15hrs prime95 stable mean anything these days? Check out the pic.
I will continue to test this out with different voltages because 500Mhz FSB is awesome. Everything is snappy. Loading from cached memory is amazing. Also, 4Ghz brought my min fps up in several games.

I changed out my RAM to another kit 4GB PC6400 and clocked it to 900Mhz which gives me 450x9=4050Mhz CPU. PLayed L4D2 and it DID NOT CRASH after about 30min of playtime. That's a step in the right direction. I will keep yalls posted if anyone out there is having this issue.

Okay, L4D2 crashed on again, and so did Bioshock (Steam). I don't get it. I had to set all my clocks to their defaults (333x9) 3Ghz.

I still think that you have a bad stick of RAM. Take out RAM (one piece at a time) and overclock and see if you get the same results.

I can see that as a standard troubleshooting step. I will try that. Mind you all, that this has just started happening since I would say December of 2009. Could my motherboard be on it's way? None of the capacitors are bulging or leaking. I've noticed steam being buggy lately. I will also try to get 32-bit XP installed and test everything out again at the clocks I was trying on the 64-bit.

I would think that you have a bad stick of RAM more than anything else.
