Default GeForce 9600 GT card not detected in Fedora 12

Hi

I'm trying to install a GeForce 9600 GT card. I have an ASUS P5Q-VM motherboard and a 400W power supply. Currently I'm using integrated graphics.

I've install the card into the PCI-e slot, and when the computer is running the card's fan is on. But I'm not sure if the card is being recognised. If I reboot with my monitor plugged into the new card it detects no output, and when I run lspci when displaying from the on-board card I get:

There's no sign of the NVIDIA card in the PCI-e slot.

So when I try to install the NVIDIA drivers (runlevel 3):
Code:
sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.53-pkg2.run
I get the following warning message:
Quote:
WARNING: You do not appear to have an NVIDIA GPU supported by the 190.53 NVIDIA Linux graphics driver installed in this system.
The script then builds the kernal but exits with this error message:
Quote:
ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'.
I've attached the full nvidia-installer.log file. Have I done something wrong, or might I have a hardware problem?

Thanks for your attention. Any help would be much appreciated!

You're right, it does appear that the system is simply not seeing the GPU. Do you have a different card you can try in that slot, or a different computer you can try the card in? Also, please check your system BIOS settings to see if there's an option to disable the integrated graphics controller.

Thanks for the reply!

I tried the BIOS settings - there doesn't seem to be a way to deactivate the integrated graphics but the boot order can be changed. I set it to PEG/IGD, and then I tried all the other possible configurations also, doesn't make any difference though.

Tomorrow I'll have access to another board with a PCI-e slot, I'll post back the results.
