System Randomly Freezes with Nvidia Drivers

Hi AaronP,I am experiencing system freeze daily when using the nvidia driver on my laptop with ubuntu 9.10 and nvidia 190.53 driver. I have tried installing the 2.6.31 and 2.6.32 kernel and its same. No issues with 2.6.30 kernel though. The laptop is Asus k40IN based on Nvidia MCP79 chipset and has Geforce 102M

I could not find anything in the logs that indicate there is a issue.

Some changes in kernel causing issue with nvidia driver?

Below is the exact symptopm.
Computer frozen.
- capslock - not working
- sysrq+b - not working
- network (ping) - not working
- gfx - was showing the last image
- sfx - was playing in a look that last ~0.5 sec of sound (playing the hw buffer I guess)
- disc usage - none
- power button - no reaction (for single press)
Full power off was needed (4 sec power button).


PFA the nvidia bug report log. Let me know if any other details or any help is needed to find out the issue.
I have run memtest86+ and found no issues with the ram.

I also had lockups and adding

pci=nommconf clocksource=hpet

to my kernel parameters seems that it fixed it. I haven't still tested it, with only one of them, to find out which one does the trick...

Seems like I have similar issue. No idea what trigers it still it's fun when MP3 sounds like scratched CD in old player
As system is unresponsive, it's impossible to generate valid bug report. Afterwards kernel log, xorg log are clean. Whatever happens, makes kernel unable to write anything to log files. I will try that pci=nommconf trick, still as those lockups are random, it's hard to tell what has helped if anything.

Gentoo AMD64 with 4Gb ram, running KDE 4.3/4. nvidia-drivers-195.36.03 2.6.32-gentoo xorg-server-1.7.5

pci=nommconf clocksource=hpet has fixed the stability issue but the gpu is running hotter now :/
