Question mplayer hdmi audio loses sync when deint=2 on ION

I use mplayer on my Zotac ION system to play ATSC and QAM recordings. Everything works perfectly for 720p recordings including audio over hdmi, but 1080i material loses audio lip sync if I use deint=2. Is this a limitation of the ION platform or is it a configuration/version problem? It doesn't seem to get worse than about a half second off, but it's not consistant so I can't adjust for it. I run my HDMI monitor at its native 1920x1080 and have different different refresh rates, enable vblank, disable compositing, disallow flipping, etc.

Any ideas? I'm baffled. I thought the ION platform could play a 1080i ATSC recording with deint=2 just fine? Is the problem with alsa?

Latest Arch Linux 64-bit, 2.6.32 kernel
MPlayer SVN-r30526-4.4.3
mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0.3 -vo vdpau:deint=2 -vc ffmpeg12vdpau -fs olympics.ts
top shows about 7% mplayer cpu usage, and 7% X cpu usage, everything else is idle
qvdpautest results look normal
Movie-Aspect is 1.78:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
