Ok... this issue can be solved adding at kernel's parameters:
hpet=force
clocksource=hpet

I've also recompiled my kernel (2.6.33-rc3) with HPET_MMAP=y... but may be it's not necessary..

So... now my laptop is working good on battery mode and even if powermizer still don't switch from AC mode to Battery, X don't crashes

EDIT: Sorry... my bad ... I spoke too early ...
problem is still present. I don't know if it's less frequent, or if by chance all day does not occur ... but now X crashes restart...

Same problem with my new Asus laptop with a GTS 360m. Using 190.53 and I never leave Performance Level 1. Switching on/off battery works fine (no crashes), but the performance level never changes. I'm pretty disappointed since I was hoping to using CUDA in Linux.

Today i bought a GT 240 GDDR5 and it is stuck at Level 1 (405/324) with 195.36.08.
I was aware of this problem but i was pretty sure it would have been fixed in 195.36.08 since its a stable release and the problem has been know for some time.
Any known workaround until a working driver is released ?

I recently investigated two configurations that exhibited behavior consistent with that described in this thread. One was using a GeForce GT 240, the other a GeForce GTX 260M.

The former turned out to be a memory training problem affecting all GT21x GPUs with SDDR3/GDDR5 memory; it should be fixed in future NVIDIA Linux graphics driver releases.

The latter is ACPI related and, while understood, not yet resolved. Unfortunately, I can't estimate/speculate when a fixed driver may become available.

Thanks for replying.
I have to say its a little annoying that the GT 240 GDDR5 problem was not fixed in 195.36.08 since that problem seem to have been known for over a month :

The fix didn't miss the release build by much, and we would have preferred to have included it. As it stands, we intend for the next BETA release to resolve this problem for GT21x GPUs.

What about the problems with the GTS 360m? Do you know what's causing it to stay at Performance Level 1? Will this be fixed in the next beta release? Thanks.

The GeForce GTS 360M is a GT215 based product and affected by the first of the two problems mentioned above. Barring additional problems with mobile configurations, the next 195.36.xx BETA driver release should work better.

I just installed 195.36.08 and this problem is not fixed. The GPU still never leaves performance level 1.
