Default suSe 8.2 and NVIDIA GeForce FX5600 Ultra

I am an absolute newbie to Linux and NVIDIA.

My NEW System uses:
ASUS P4C800 E-Deluxe MB, 2.8GHz P4 800FSB HT and 1 GB PC3200 DDR400 Memory.

Video Card: Chaintech Apogee FX71 with NVIDIA GeForce FX5600 Ultra/128MB

I have an old ADI monitor (8 years old).

I tried to install SuSe 8.2. I insert the CD in the drive and restart. Installation screen shows up. I hit "Install". A small screen shows up "Loading Kernel". Soon after this is done, the screen goes black for a couple of min and then the screen comes on all garbled. Where is the problem? Solution?

Thanks in advance.

Try this:

- Pull out your new nVidia-based graphics card.
- Plug in your old PCI graphics card
- Install Linux
- Download nVidia driver
- Install nVidia driver
- Pull out your old PCI graphics card
- Swap in your new nVidia-based graphics card

No kidding, that's how I installed Redhat 9, with my
old PCI Matrox Millenium.

Now my new graphics card is mostly working. It is an
ASUS V9560VS (using nVidia FX5600).

I do have another posting here due to seg fault when
starting certain apps, but the card does boot to GUI desktop,
and does run glxgears test program at 3200fps!
