The whole point of most (all?) video codecs is that they are lossy, and hence can achieve some compression.

If you want lossless, then I guess you'll have to capture raw RGB images and use e.g. bzip2 to compress them, but the compression rate won't be very good. I don't know if there's really a standard format for this, since practically nobody does this.

If you need a standardised solution, H.264 Predictive lossless coding is probably the best choice, an alternative is FFmpeg's lossless codec, FFV1 which is known to have a good speed/size tradeoff. Both codecs can be decoded by libavcodec (meaning they should be available on every platform I can think of), and both should have significantly better compression than bz2 for real videos (as compared to white noise).
As you found out, both are not supported by VDPAU.
If you need VDPAU support, you could use x264 or libavcodec's MPEG-2 encoder with a constant quantiser of 2 which means significantly smaller files with minimal quality loss.

Could you test with mplayer -vo gl? AFAIK, it is supposed to support 30-bit output (but I think it is untested).
If it does not work, I will try to add it to mplayer -vo vdpau:noforce-mixer

Something is wrong with VC1 decoding result. It should be around 80 fps.
Make sure to set powermizer to maxperf before running qvdpautest.

It's always is at max performance. I'm using the 195.36.07.03 module.

Hello, i have got problem with the official product drivers 195.36.15.
The context:
I have got a 9400GT under openSuse 11.1 64Bit

i was using the 190.53 without any problem and i could use mythtv with vdpau without any problem. (with TNT HD ok).

I have installed the 195.36.15 from the official repository from nvidia as it was updated.
Then i could not use mythtv with vdpau, i have got black screen when playing video, nothing on the log.

To confirm the problem i have tryed your program that put this:



Have you got any idea of wat could be wrong? :/

The i7 is actually clocked to 4.1Ghz.

It appeared that the mixer and multithreaded tests were entirely CPU bound as i had 1 core pegged for each test.
