Default Driver install for GF7300GS

I am attempting to install the driver for a GF7300GS video card on a Ubuntu 9.10(Karmic Koala), When I tried to run the executable to install the driver, I got the following error:

"ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
For further details, please see the section INSTALLING THE NVIDIA DRIVER
in the README available on the Linux driver download page at
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
driver download page at www.nvidia.com"
How can i do? Please help!!

Default Re: Driver install for GF7300GS

You have to run the installer from a VT or a remote shell or some other non-graphical shell (serial console, for example... i wouldn't recommend a paper teletype as I don't think this would work with ncurses!), and your X server must be stopped.

Log out of your desktop session and switch to a VT (control-alt-F1 will get you to the 1st VT, for example) and log in. On Ubuntu 9.10, you can stop your X server by running "sudo stop gdm". Then you should be able to go ahead and run the installer.

This information is discussed in detail in the README:
