What I find interesting is that even the nvidia homepage was showing "Fermi" as having up to 512 cuda cores. If there were able to have kept the power down the GTX 480 probably would have had those extra 32 cores, then it might be a different game. That could put the card much closer to the HD5890.

I think eventually there will be a run of 512 cards. They night end up being something like GTX485's.

For anyone with a 5870 setup, no it wouldn't be at all. But for others who have been holding out (like myself) with 200 series or earlier, yes it would be worth it. Or at least that is my opinion.

Technically, Mad stated it right. Angle-independent is the superior filtering method.
Thank you sir.

I knew I had read it somewhere, but I couldn't remember where.

Considering the extra cost, heat output, marginal performance and PSU requirements (potential) - I say the smart money for those looking to upgrade - is on ATI.
Though some folks just want to have an Nvidia card and that's fine too and of course there is the Physx support as well I suppose.
Yes pretty much you are right. But for me 3D gaming is where it is at. If ATI had a 3D solution, i would have got a couple of 5870's to tide me over until these cards launched.

I'm gonna try out SLi 480s...just for the record, I have nothing bad to say about ATi's 5870s, they have served me well for the past six months with minor to no issues

And anyone who tells you different is full of BS...ATi has a great product, I'm just a hardware head that needs a change now and then

thats all/

If someone here decides to buy some of these and wants to sell a 5870 for a good price, let me know.

Looks like lee's in the market. Maybe you can purchase one of his.

Lee, I wish you luck, bud. I think you're making a mistake, but if anyone understands the 'hardware bug' it's me. Sometimes you just get antsy.

Is there any way that you could hold onto the 5870s until you've had a chance to test the 480s to see which you like best? Tri-fire is a heck of a setup to part with.

yea. I'd love to have a 2nd 5870. However, I'd have to upgrade my PSU to do so.
