Jimmy, benches where one card runs out of memory are dishonest, even you should see that. 90% of the time, those situations are unplayable reguardless.

All cards reach their limits at one point or another, and framebuffer size is not the only thing that creates a bottleneck. Your statement is not correct anyway with respect to Metro 2033, because if you read the review, the GTX 470 has a clear lead even at lower resolutions (ie. 1680x1050).

GTX 470 looks like a great card. I think they will eventually match HD 5870 performance with driver updates, so the only question remaining is, if it will be in time before a refresh or a price drop.

GTX 480 results are all over the place. There's just too big of a delta between the slowest and fastest results. Any review tries to explain that? I don't really care about the power consumption or the heat. 93°C in load is not that far from my previous card. The only bad thing remaining is the noise and if all it takes is placing a 120mm fan on top of the card, then I see no problem.

If I had the money right now, I would buy one GTX 470 with the possibility going SLI some time in the future. But I just bought Xbox 360 and have plenty of games to go through, so I'll wait for a month or two and see, if drivers really do something.

IMO After reading all the reviews, if you're looking to save cash manually overclocking two 5850s is still a great option. Every time those cards approach 5870 clocks performance is remarkably similar.

I personally know a few fellows running 5850s @ 950-1k on the core with MSI's Afterburner.

Well, I am disappointed, but I suppose not surprised. From a marketing perspective, I was pretty sure that Nvidia's newest entry would probably be luke warm, based on the idiotic hush hush PR campaign that they had been pushing... Being a die hard Nvidia guy for the past 9 or 10 years, I was hoping that Nvidia would pull a rabbit out of their hat. However, the heat and noise is a deal breaker since the performance gains are not worth it. I held out for the PAX unveiling... but It's going to be an XFX 5870 for me. I'm sure I'll be criticized for saying this.... and I hate to... but this is more of a marketing win for AMD/ATI and a blow for Nvidia.

Most of what I'm thinking off has already been said.Too much power,too much heat,extreme noise,10-15% faster on average and for 100+ euros more after 6 months.

My next upgrade will probably be at the end of 2010 when Northern Islands and Fermi 2 show up.

Looking at the benchmarks today I realized that nvidia has got a sleeping giant in its hands. It benefits immensely from overclocking, so once they do a refresh and utilize the full 512 cores plus a die-shrink I think it's going to be legendary.

Temps are the only thing keeping fermi from properly flexing its muscles. I think we're going to see a whole different beast once these get watercooled.

Even when restrained by the TDP and heat it still beats the 5870 quite handily. Definitely not a geforce FX in any way or form(except maybe noise).
