According to the Anandtech review on GTX 470/480, there is a problem right now in NVIDIA's drivers which causes the new Transparency Supersamping (TrSS) mode on Fermi to run extremely slow with a huge performance hit due to overly aggressive super-sampling. Apparently this will be fixed in a driver release next month so that the performance hit will be much smaller.
[H]OCP used two games (ie. Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Dirt 2, which represent 50% of their test suite of 4 games in total!) where they showed framerates using the new Transparency Supersampling mode enabled on the GTX 4xx cards. So to the make a long story short, it seems that TrSS could be the reason why we see unusually low framerates for GTX 4xx cards in two out of four games tested by [H]OCP. |

One of the four games that [H]OCP tested used the new Transparency Supersampling mode on GTX 470 too. I believe it was Battlefield: Bad Company 2. |

![]() If I didn't get my ATI 5970's I would have gotten SLI GTX480's, but glad I didn't as they get ultra hot... And I almost think anyone with 2 PCIe slots next to each other with no air gap between are going to be in trouble. |

I've defected
![]() Ordered 2 5850's last night at £220 each. Never had an ATi card before but these 2 cards cost less and one GTX480, easily out perform it and are available now. As Toss pointed out to me, they OC superbly, too. It was a no-brainer really. These newer ATi drivers have made x-fire a lot more attractive. |
