Alright I think I've made up my mind and going with a 480, thx guys. Now do we really have to wait until what it is April 12th to buy these? I'm kinda hoping to see them pop up in stock @ Newegg before then.

Nvidia say that the initial shippment would be in the tens of thousand. It could mean20,000 units. It will go in a heartbeat, not to mention etailer price gouging.

Seen the same pre-order page on many different e-tailer's websites already so I'm assuming the GTX 4x0s are going to be rationed based on demand. That should also mean no price-gouging.

After the initial shipment (and pre-orders), my guess is that the e-tailers will try to sell over MSRP when the stocks dies up.

This is my quandry - I've got SLIed 8800GT 512MB cards and when I was pondering getting a GTX 275 last year, most of what I saw looked like it'd be a lateral move with negligible performance improvement. I was looking at the comparison charts at Tom's HW and this seems to still be true, but these new 58xx/GTX 4x0 cards seem to be 2-4x better than what I've got. Is this the case or is it like wishiknew's opinion that it wouldn't be that much faster? Thanks.

I dont think IŽd get a GTX480 with the reference cooler, it seems like a good idea to wait for some custom coolers that can keep it cooler at lower noise levels.
Seems like there are already some on the way.

A little late to the party, I'd be, but I agree that it's somewhat of a sidegrade to go to a 470 (other than the DX11)....
Go for the 480.

I would go with another GTX285 and run SLI ,I have never had any problems with studdering, but if you just want one card then the GTX 480 would be the bset deal if you can find one.I look for the price of the GTX 480 to go up to around $600 or more ,it would probbally be cheaper to get another GTX 285.I never had any problems with my BFG GTX 280 OCX in SLI or TRI SLI.

DarkOnex, maybe u already made up ur mind, but if you are looking to complement your current pc in your signature, I would say stick with the 285 for now. I doubt you will see any gain with just a gpu upgrade.
