No X display on Dell U2410 with Quadro FX580 on Fedora 12

I've been setting it up a new Dell T5500 workstation with a Quadro FX580 card and two Dell U2410 monitors (only one is connected at the moment).

The connection between the card and the monitor works fine for the BIOS and for text consoles. However, when I try to start X, the monitor goes into sleep mode. It still thinks there is a connection of some sort, as it reports a missing cable if I remove it.

This happens with the latest version of the Nvidia driver available from rpmfusion - 195.36.15

I should add that the machine becomes unresponsive when I try to start X - neither the keyboard nor remote SSH sessions work.
