my main rig went through vista sp1, sp2, then win7 with no reinstall. and it boots within 30-40seconds on HDD.

personally i hate fresh installs, it takes at least week or two to get everything back the way I like it.

I make a backup of C drive every two weeks of all my PCs, in case something goes bad, i can restore it.

in two years or so, I only had to restore backup maybe 3 times.
