Naw my room temps were below 20c yesterday.
Got it running stable(10runs of intel's burn test) at 1.45V and 4200Mhz. Idles at around 40c and max temps are somewhere between 70-80c.

I'm not familiar with the P6T BIOS so I don't know about Turbo modes relation to the manual multiplier setting. Quote:

How common is it to find that one has to increase the voltage on their Core i7s as time goes on to remain stable at the same overclock? I used to be able to run my Core i7 965 at 3.8GHz at 1.22V for hours Prime95 stable (no bluescreening or restarts either, I just stop the test after a few hours). This was half a year ago.
A couple of days ago I decided to run Prime95 again on a whim to test some temperatures (I had just cleaned out my PC and reseated the CPU HSF). My computer bluescreened after 5 minutes. I had to raise the CPU voltage to 1.25V (without changing any other settings) to get Prime95 running stably again for a few hours. I guess my hardware also changed in the meantime. I went from GTX 280s to GTX 480s and I added the Intel SSD. Could this also have caused my overclock to fail?

Yeah if you put more of a load on it you can find yourself raising voltages. I don't think you have to because of age unless its been running very hot for prolonged periods of time. It could also be that what you thought was stable never really was and the increased load from the faster cards and drive and/or summer heat have pushed it over the edge.
Stick with intelburntest; if it can pass an overnight marathon of that then it truly is stable imho. Mine has been on 24/7 since January without any probs

I'm not sure which CPU I will get next. I have been very tempted to get a 980 like you have. Just haven't made up my mind yet. |
