It's true you have fan boys here and at Rage. They're certainly on other forums too. I've used the 5870 and 5870 Crossfire X. I'm currently using a 470 and a 5870 in rig 2. Yes it's still early for the 470. I've also had a pretty good deal of experience with products from both ATi and nVidia. My card history is below.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpo...&postcount=201

You may add HD 5870 Crossfire, triple HD 5870 Crossfire and a GTX 470 to the list now.

I'll agree not to discount or dismiss other user's direct experiences if they will do the same for me.

If you're going to read reviews, read them all or as many as possible. It is worth repeating that bar graphs FPS reports do not tell the whole story. Some reviewers do report hitching, bugs or graphic glitches, and others gloss them over. Sometimes these issues may not crop up in canned benches which both ATi and nVidia heavily optimize for.

Is there an in-game AA option for Stalker COP? It's been a long time since I've played the game.

What I know is that ATI cards are really finicky about AA settings. I have seen hitching and screen-tearing if the AA isn't configured right in the CCC for the game you're playing. But I've never had a problem with "hitching" in any Crossfire setup that I have ever owned that wasn't easily resolved with a proper configuration of the CCC. This includes 4870 Crossfire and 4870X2 Quadfire setups. I say this honestly. Most of you guys know I have owned both NV and ATI and don't care about taking sides, and I'm not about to intentionally mislead people who come to me asking me of my experience with it to base their buying decision on.

Unfortunately, I've only been able to test my 5970s briefly on Crysis and Stalker COP as I'm still in the midst of my build and didn't notice any of this "hitching" that people are complaining about at 1920x in my brief testing. On Crysis I enabled 4xAA in-game like I always do and disabled CCC AA. On Stalker--I don't remember what I did as I can't remember if it had an in-game AA setting or not.

I can't help but think that many of you guys have something set wrong in the CCC that is causing this "hitching." I just haven't seen that be a problem with ATI either in single or multi-GPU modes when the CCC is configured properly, and I also haven't seen a single review out there on the web that brings it up.

You fellows caught me. I'm an nVidia fan boy that doesn't know how to properly configure AA settings in the CCC. Perhaps I'll figure it out after I've owned enough ATi cards and maybe not

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpo...&postcount=201

I'm so dense that I usually set filtering in game if provided the opportunity.

It's true 4xAA may be selected in the STALKER CoP bench they provide...

however in their game this option does not exist. Nor do things like; DX11, tessellation and contact hardening shadows.

I've never seen a reviewer mention FPS dropping to 12-15 on the Assault Harbor level for no reason at all in Crysis at the harbor near and around the ship using Crossfire X. I guess that is in my head as well.

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showpost...23&postcount=2

When Anantech and [H]ard talked up ATi cards in AoC, including the HD 4870 X2, I never saw them mention FPS dropping to 15 and staying there after zoning into an indoor play field like a Villa if AA was active using Crossfire. I never saw them mention wild shadow flickering or corruption using Crossfire X either. Yet another product of my overactive imagination.

I love buying graphics cards and then selling them or RMAing them for a loss. It's a hobby of mine, what can I say?

It should be painfully obvious by now I'm an nVidia fan boy who has never praised ATi cards on this forum or any other.

I think what you mention above are common bugs with multi-GPU systems. It isn't a trend. I've had similar things happen to me with SLI. What I disagreed with is the notion that seemed to be there that this was a routine with Crossfire or 5970 and not an anomaly as if there were some kind of architectural deficiency with the card as compared to Fermi.

I benched lots of games over here and never saw minimums on any of the 4xxx series Crossfire setups dip below what a single GPU did. In most cases there was 70+% scaling.

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=116585

I also provided frapslog recordings to go with it so there was no doubt. Granted I haven't done this with the 5xxx series yet, but I find it hard to believe that Crossfire's regressed since that time.

Let me get this straight. I'm confused and inept. I'm also intentionally lying to Maverick123w to misled him into buying a 470/480.

I'm going to let that stand on its own. People may decide for themselves.

I'm done with this.

That's overclocked triple HD 5870 Crossfire X results for STALKER CoP maxed @ 1920x1200. No mins below 35, averages that are sometimes above 95. Boss, right? Wrong. Hitch, hitch, hitch.

Again, turning AA off or dropping res to 1440x900 would magically smooth it out. Box was selected in the CCC and I set AA with the application.
May I ask why you use both DX10.1 and DX11 settings on the same bench?

'10.1 style' is the highest setting that benchmark allows for that option.
