FX support stopped with vista, but why the hell would they drop support for 200 series, when they still support 6 series and up.

Has anyone actually played GTA IV with a GTX 480? I'm curious how users feel about it. I see the review at PCGamehardware and wanna snag a 480, but my OC'd 5870 has really been a great GPU.
GTA IV is about the only game I think I'd see any gains in though and I'm not real crazy about 100 watt more power usage. |

These 470s work well with 3d vision and my Acer LCD. It's really nice to have vsync back @ 120Hz. I didn't use to run it when I was limited to 60Hz.
I was able to select 120Hz in the nVidia CP before I installed the Acer driver. I installed the Acer driver anyway though.

Gtx 470's easily beat 5850's for one thing and for two in sli 470's routinely come in neck and neck with 5870cf or slightly above or below and easily beat a 5970 and 5850 cf. Check your benchmarks again. The truth is the 400 series run hot and consume boatloads of power but actually perform really really well and represent a decent bang for the buck. That's the truth no bs. Now if you wanna be a fanboy of team red sure go ahead and spew nonsense about how loud the fans are and how they are underperformers and are late blah blah ad nausem. Numbers don't lie. Your call. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-review-5.html

and....why would you trust canadians?? Oh cause they gave you the result you wanted to see... Things really equal out between the GeForce GTX 470 and Radeon HD 5850. We were able to play at 2560x1600 with 8X MSAA on both video cards, no fancy Supersampling AA at this resolution. In this "apples-to-apples" highest gameplay setting scenario, the Radeon HD 5850 is edging out with slightly faster framerates. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/...0_sli_review/6 HD5850 edges out the 470 GTX in DiRT 2. The GTX 470 doesn't easily beat the 5850. Starting from the bottom up, we would say the least relevant video card is the GeForce GTX 470. In all our gameplay testing today, not once did the GeForce GTX 470 provide a superior gameplay experience compared to the Radeon HD 5850, even in Metro 2033. In fact, performance was very close between both video cards, and in some cases the Radeon HD 5850 proved to provide faster framerates. Looking strictly at performance, these video cards are equal. My GPUs are always water cooled so the stock fan noise is also a moot point. |

Hexus shows good performance with 470 SLi too. I've got no complaints with my overclocked cards here. They work great with my 120Hz Acer and 3d vision.
http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=24263 I'm still on Vista so Win 7 hacking PhysX would be a no go for me. Folks should buy what matches their tastes and needs. If 5850 Crossfire is your thing, go for it.

Why trust canadians? Are they known to be unreliable or untrust worthy? Do they have a reason to lie? Are they on nvidia's payroll or what? The better question is why wouldn't I trust them. LOL you think I picked them because they gave me the results I wanted? Seriously dude? I could care less in all honesty I just don't care for exaggerated bul**** is all which is why I even responded to your post. They and I believe hexus are the only sites that have run 470 sli reviews. That's why I picked canadians. I'll have to look around some more. As far as Kyle's review over at H. Heh I am a long time regular poster over there and I love their forums and what not but that doesn't mean his word is gospel. Especially when it comes to nvidia the last year or so. Your also comparing cards with very very mature 6 month old drivers to new architecture and brand new drivers. So there are some annamolies in some of the tests which just don't jive. You can clearly see in some tests in certain games how the scaling is and how some frames drop off for no apparent reason. Whatever but the bottom line is 470 and 470 sli are real contenders and not the afterthought you TRIED to make it sound like. get your facts straight before you speak next time.

60-120FPS is pretty much ideal for me. I really missed vsync and it's great to have it back.

We'll just agree to disagree. I don't find the GTX 470 interesting at all. Moving on... The GTX 480 might be in my future. I'd like to see someones' thoughts who went from a 5870 to a GTX 480 and see if they feel it was worth it. Also, some real world GTA IV 5870 vs 480... so how does it play now?? |
