Default Battle of the Giants: 5970 CrossfireX vs. 480 Tri-SLI

Finally.. someone willing to push the envelope. Good rundown over on Hardware.info. Seems like they go back and forth. 5970 CFX wins some; 480 Tri-SLI wins others. Tri-Xfire also performs really well. Only thing I didn't like was they only OC'd the i7 to 3.4GHz which I'm almost certain held back Quadfire a bit.

And power consumption under load --

Just incredible. 480 Tri-SLI consumes roughly 60% more power than 5970 CFX.

I think I'll add another 480 sooner or later.

Too bad 470 SLI isn't on there, and 5850 xfire for that matter

That is totally ridiculous running the i7920 at only 3.4. All of those multi GPU setups would be so CPU limited its not funny. The might as well have run those benchmarks on a Core 2 Duo.

I'll put that down to drivers for the moment.

256.xx is still on schedule for this month IIRC

Tri-tire 5870's looks like it wins the day for frames and power consumption.
